This Les Paul Deluxe shows all the typical features of it's vintage: speed knobs, Kluson 325-VP machine heads, Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and chrome tailpiece. The thin layer of maple maple between the two mahogany sections is visible on the side of the guitar, just above the strap button.

The serial number is one of the short-lived decals that was used in the mid 1970s. The first two digits, 00, indicate a 1976 year of manufacture. The finish of this guitar was newly described as Wine Red, to avoid confusion with the newly available Cherry Sunburst finish; prior to 1975 it would have been simply Cherry. Shipping figures indicate just 14 Wine Red Les Paul Deluxes in 1976, but it was a very low-shipping year for the Deluxe all round; just 142 instruments in total (compared to 2561 the previous year, and 10484 in the peak year, 1973).
